SPACE has been awarded the Pieken in de Delta grant from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, co-financed by the Municipality of Amsterdam Economic Affairs department. The grant, 595,000 E, has been awarded to further develop and run our Linking Science with Business program in which business students from the entrepreneurship specialization team up with researchers from the Science Faculty and Science Park NWO institutes to workout business cases and business plans for the commercialization of innovations .
A recent example is the EmoVision project (www.emovision.nl) which represents the UvA in the 2009 UNICA European University Entrepreneurship Competition.

The Technologiestichting STW Workshop on Entrepreneurship, took place on 17 and 18 November at the UvA’s new Science Faculty building at the Science Park Amsterdam. This year it was hosted by SPACE, Bureau Kennistransfer and CASE. The workshop was one of the events of the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009 in The Netherlands.
During the workshop researchers from all over the Netherlands with a business idea were introduced to the entrepreneurial process and applied this knowledge to working out a business idea based on their research.
Jan Visschers, from NIKHEF, co-developed a new Hybrid Pixel Detector which can be used for X-ray imaging. He demonstrated a working prototype as part of his pitch and presented the business potential of this innovative technology which won him the first price. During the workshop Jan Visschers was coached by Willem Dorresteijn from SPACE. Technologiestichting STW and the participants considered this workshop a great success, in part because of the location and the facilities offered at the new FNWI building.
