On Wednesday, December 19, from 9.30-16.30 hours, SARA will hold the annual Superdag. This day is organized for the users of the national ICT research infrastructure at SARA, and for policymakers, vendors, HPC experts and everybody with interest in e-Infrastructure, to get informed on recent HPC developments and opportunities, and to get in touch with each other.
The theme of the 27th Superdag will be: Next generation computing in service of Science and R&D.
An advanced national ICT research infrastructure is of essential importance for academia and industry. The use of this infrastructure has great impact on the knowledge economy and will enhance the internationally competitive position of the Netherlands now and in the future.
SARA has invited Prof. Dr. Domenico Giardini to give a keynote speech at the Superdag 2012. Prof. Giardini has been full Professor of Seismology and Geodynamics at the ETH Zürich since February 1, 1997. He is also the Director of the Swiss Earthquake Research Center. Since 1992 he has been director of the Global Seismic Hazard Assessment Program of the UN/International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR). In the framework of this program Prof. Giardini coordinates research for INTAS, the EU, UNESCO/IUGS and NATO. He formerly represented Italy and now represents Switzerland in international seismological commissions. Prof. Giardini will elaborate on the latest developments and impact of an advanced ICT infrastructure on the knowledge economy in Switzerland.
